So I'm using the HDV 1080 60i easy setup option and trying to capture from my Canon XHA1. The problem is that I get frequent time code breaks even though there are none on the tape. I have the break up clips on rec start/stop option toggled off.
Is there a specific capture setting I need to use for my camera, I can't seem to find any info on this anywhere yet.
thanks in advance.

Re: capture problems with canon XH A1 and FCP hdv setup
Thu, April 19, 2007 - 4:35 PMIf you're using FCP 4.5 and OS X 10.4.9 that's what's causing it. 10.4.9 causes problems with FCP 4.5 and FCP Express 3.5. The only way to fix it is to Archive and Install an earlier version of the same OS - or buy new upgrade. I had the same problem. There's an apple page on it here:
docs.info.apple.com/article.html
good luck.

Re: capture problems with canon XH A1 and FCP hdv setup
Wed, April 25, 2007 - 3:06 PMNot sure if you figured it out yet.
I just went through the process these past few days
This is what you need to do...
1) OS 10.4.9
2) FCP 5.1
3) FCP Upgrade 5.1.4
4) Quicktime 7.1.4
5) Use a clean hard drive
6) Capture using a 800 firewire cable
7) XH-A1> under VCR mode > go to MENU (when its disconnected from the firewire cable) > select SIGNAL SETUP > switch PLAYBACK to HDV > then click on HD DOWN CONVERSION and set to OFF
Good Luck.

Re: capture problems with canon XH A1 and FCP hdv setup
Tue, July 8, 2008 - 11:38 AMthanks Sand. sometimes i am ok here especially after setting the hdv out on the cam but sometimes i still have trouble. from what i read fw 800 won't even connect to the cam due to the port shape so that can't be it. i'm going to trash prefs and repair permissions. ugh HDV i hate you!! -

Re: capture problems with canon XH A1 and FCP hdv setup
Tue, July 8, 2008 - 12:22 PMok even funnier, it now works better on my wife's old slow g5 (1.8 i think) then on my dual 2.3. something is messing up my captures, i tried switching hard drives and using quicktime to capture instead of FCP same result. everything jumps and chunks in the capture window, like a capture stutter. any ideas? -

Re: capture problems with canon XH A1 and FCP hdv setup
Tue, July 8, 2008 - 2:55 PMI'd say capture from a different camera (if you can borrow one) to see where the problem actually lies. You might just try cleaning the heads! And iMovieHD will indeed ignore many timecode problems, but your issue sounds worse than normal. -
