editing on a new iMac?

topic posted Mon, March 10, 2008 - 5:00 PM by  elise
Hi,
Does anyone out there have any experience/opinion about editing video on a new iMac? I am in the market and need some help!

Here are some of the specs:
Intel 2.4Ghz Duo Core Processor
2GB Ram

I'd be editing mostly dv, maybe some hd...some 2D motion graphics but really nothing crazy ... probably just moves on stills, titles, etc...

Thanks people :)

Just keep in mind that the iMac is a consumer level machine.

I would stick with a Mac Pro, but that's me.

IF you do go with an iMac, go 4GB and get a good external media set up.

    Hi Elise,

I have the new i-Mac and I love it. I was on a budget and I didn't want a laptop and the MAC Pro is over kill at this time. I did some research (dvxuser.com) and found many people are using the "NEW" iMac....What I did is I bought the 2.4ghz with the 24in monitor and the 1gb memory....then i upgraded to the 2.8ghz and 500gig internal drive (this is a must-i should of gone 750gig..oh well)....Then I bought 4 gigs of memory from OWC eshop.macsales.com so much cheaper then apple...and I 1st bought a 500gb g-raid 2 external drive and just recently bought a 1tb G-Raid 2 ex drive both drives from Mac Mall www.macmall.com...they have a store in Los Angeles or you can order off the website...I had no problems...

    Hope this helps,

    Jimmy
